1. Summary

At Science [&] Technology: Vision B.V. our core business is measuring in photos using markers. With the markers we can measure 3D points in the real world with a few millimeters accuracy. From there on we can process these points and create virtual 3D objects that represent the real objects.

For one of our projects, Markerscan, we created an app that takes photos and returns the 3D points to the user.

2. System

The system consisted of two components. One is the mobile app and the other is the processing server. Before the user can start, they first have to download and print our markers. They can also order them from us for more accuracy (See: Markerscan). The mobile app is created in Unity and works for both Android and iOS. The user can start a new project and take photos within the app. With our marker detection software we detect the markers on board. When the user is finished taking pictures, he presses calculate and the detected marker locations are send to our server where the 3D points are calculated and then returned to the mobile phone. The user can then decide to send the 3D points in various forms to their email.
